Camera Obscura: Concert

camera-obscura1

Tuesday night was a great kick off for the summer concert series with Camera Obscura. They were at the Glass House in Pomona and I was glad that it was only thirty minutes away.  Cara, my friend Rob and I got there around 7:30pm, which is pretty damn early to think of it.  We didn’t realize until later that they had two bands opening for them, actually a DJ and a band called Agent Ribbons.  Camera Obscura wasn’t going to play until 9:40, so we took our time and Rob bought tickets for the Band of Horses concert at the Glass House box office.  They’re actually playing at the newly restored Fox Theater in downtown Pomona in late August. I still got to get the tickets.

Hurry up payday.

Camera Obscura: April Release Date

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Some good news for Camera Obscura fans. They announced they’ll be releasing their fourth album, My Maudlin Career on the 21st of April in the U.S., and the album is being release by the cool 4AD label.  A good choice by 4AD to add this band to their arsenal.

If you haven’t heard of Camera Obscura, they have a light hearted sound that makes you think of riding a bike around a park during the spring time (maybe not Southern California parks, but more Seattlesque). The band is most notably linked with Belle and Sebastian and is fronted by the soft voiced Tracyanne Campbell. I first heard of this band when looking for music similar to Trembling Blue Stars, but always end up skipping or overlooking them.  I finally took the time to listen, and I’m glad I did. They’re definitely worth it.

I’m looking forward to the release of their next album and hopefuly a North American Tour. Here’s a sample of the self titled track.
